About Us

Medical Tours Costa Rica (MTCR) is a medical referral consultant and booking company that assists clients with organizing their medical procedures, tours, and booking their recovery retreats/hotels. Working closely with the Hospital Clinica Biblica  (HCB), Costa Rica’s most revered medical institution, we specialize in arranging plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, cardiology procedures, bariatric procedures, eye surgery and dental procedures.

We are dedicated to providing top-quality personalized attention and information to a growing clientele looking for affordable, yet high quality surgery options in Costa Rica. 

How it all began…
MTCR began in 2006 as an offshoot of the Hospital Clinica Biblica’s International Insurance Department which has actively assisted the hospital with its international patients since 1997.

What began as an office dedicated to international insurance billing for the hospital and its international patients and community soon became a liaison (networker) between doctors, patients and even their families far away. Each year we have found ourselves spending more and more time assisting patients in an integral manner by recommending proven, time tested doctors (who we know on a personal level), coordinating appointments and even by helping family members with hotel and tour reservations.

Over the years we have had the privilege of making many new friends. Boy the stories we could tell; like having a young Italian family staying at one of our employee’s homes for several weeks during the hospitalization of their father; or the time we flew to Los Angeles and back the same day to help an elderly patient get home. In fact one of our staff members ended opening her own recovery home this past year at her house since she did not want to turn any one away.  

Our relationships over the past few years with the doctors and patients have led to numerous North American companies contacting us interested in sending patients to Costa Rica for their surgical procedures. Seeing that a need was not being met we decided to look for ways to ease the sometimes complex process of finding a qualified foreign surgeon, arranging a consultation, and booking a recovery retreat and tours. This led to the establishment of Medical Tours Costa Rica in 2006.

Staff

Our staff has over 25 years combined experience coordinating patient’s medical care  between doctors and their insurance companies through our sister company Segrupex S.A. which is the hospital’s International Insurance office.

Brad Cook

Brad Cook has worked closely with the Hospital Clinica Biblica  since 1995 as the Billing and Admissions director and then administrator of the International Insurance Department which he has led since its inception. Brad has a B.A degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. Brad resides in Costa Rica with his wife and two young children.

Bill Cook

With over 15 years working in Costa Rica’s travel industry, Bill Cook is in charge of the day to day operations of MTCR, including handling customer consultations and coordinating all procedures. He also oversees web content development and marketing strategies. Bill resides in Costa Rica with his wife and two young children.

Rogelio Garcia

Rogelio is a computer engineer and volunteer Red Cross paramedic. His main focus at MTCR is up dating our web page with the latest medical procedures, prices and information for our patients. During his four years here at the hospital he has established a genuine friendship with many of the hospitals finest physicians allowing him to quickly contact doctors in order to provide prompt answers to the patient’s toughest and most urgent questions.

Rocio

Rocio had worked in the hotel and tourism industry before being hired by the HCB in 2002 to join the hospitals customer service department. Over the past two years Rocio has focused mainly on coordinating medical services between doctors and the hospitals international patients. Rocio has a degree in International Business Administration and is fluent in English.

Tours and transfers are handled by Tropical Expeditions of Costa Rica, one of the only travel companies in Costa Rica dedicated to assist medical travelers.
