What are Dental Veneers?

Although each patient is different, the procedure generally takes 3 visits to the dentist’s office as a general rule. You do not have to plan for a hospital stay because this is done by the maxillofacial surgeon on an outpatient basis. However, since you have to go to the dentist’s office three different times, you should plan to stay in the country approximately seven to ten days. You should definitely take this into consideration when you are making travel plans to Costa Rica for this procedure. Since you will be in the country about two weeks, you can always schedule sightseeing tours, trips to the countryside, or you can even spend some time at a beachfront hotel in between your visits to the dentist. As was discussed above, it usually takes three visits to the dentist’s office to complete the procedure. Your first visit will consist of a general dental check up to ensure that there are no underlying problems that will keep you from getting dental veneers. Once the dental check-up is done, the dentist will schedule the following visits, and you can return to the hotel and begin any of the activities you schedule around your dental visits. If you are pressed for time, you should discuss this with the dentistry consultant that will be assigned to you by Medical Tours Costa Rica and the dentist. The first two visits might be scheduled on the same day, but the second visit will be contingent on the dentist not finding any underlying problems which could prevent the procedure from being completed. The dentist will remove just the enamel that will be replaced by the veneers. Therefore, the size of your teeth and their thickness will not vary all that much from their original size and thickness, and the covers will look and feel very natural. Once enough enamel has been trimmed from your teeth, an impression will be made and it to be sent to the dental lab. The lab will then make a mold from the impression, and the procelain covers will be custom made. During your third visit, the dentist will set the custom made covers on your natural teeth, inspect, and trim them if necessary for a proper look and feel. The dentist will make sure that your the new covers look and feel just right next to your natural teeth. Once the dentist is satisfied with the look and you are satisfied with the feel, the dentist will bond the dental veneers to the ground and etched tooth surface.
