This medical center was known as Clínica Católica for about 26 years. During the next seventeen years, the name underwent several changes, until it was changed to Hospital Clínica Católica de la Purisima Concepción Association. It is commonly known as Hospital La Catolica, but it could be referred to by any of its previous names by locals.
In 2006, an forward-looking process of changes in administration and infrastructure began, and the medical center was transformed into a new, unique, and modern concept in medical services in the fabulous, lush, tropical country of Costa Rica. While this was going on, it was given the name by which it is known today, Hospital Hotel La Católica, or Hospital La Catolica for short.
On August 16, 2007, Certification of Hospital Empowerment for a period of 5 years was obtained by Hospital La Catolica. In addition, Hospital La Catolica achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission International, the international branch of The Joint Commission (USA); whose mission is to improve the quality of health care throughout international community.
For over 75 years, the Joint Commission and its predecessor organization have dedicated themselves to improving the safety, security, and quality of health care services throughout the world. The JCI evaluates approximately 16 thousand health care facilities and programs through a voluntary accreditation process, and Hospital La Catolica is one of the health care centers evaluated by the JCI.
Since Hospital La Catolica complies with national and international standards and regulations for quality, and patient safety, the Health Ministry, a part of the Costa Rican Government, has submitted the medical center for a second accreditation with the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.
Hospital La Catolica is currently being evaluated by the Canadian Council, and accreditation is expected at any time.
