ACL Reconstruction Surgery | ACL Repair Surgery

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Surgery, Repair and Reconstruction:

ACL repair surgery, also known as ALCS, is an intricate medical procedure that uses a graft from a patient´s leg to rebuild, reconstruct or repair the ligament. An operating room is used for this surgery, and it is done under spinal or general anesthesia.

• The average length of an ACL repair surgery is approximately 60- 90 minutes. • This is often an outpatient procedure, though some patients may stay one night in the hospital. • You can usually fly home approximately 7 days after being discharged from the hospital.

Details of the ALCS Procedure:

Most ACL surgeries are performed while the patient is under general anesthesia or a spinal block. To begin the procedure, the doctor will perform two small incisions in your knee. These incisions will be used as points of access for a camera and the instruments needed to perform the procedure.

The surgeon will then insert a tiny camera and specialized instruments into the incisions, and the anterior cruciate ligament will be cleaned and evaluated.  The actual repair may include cutting the ACL and preparing the bone surfaces for a graft. Once the bone surfaces are ready, a graft is taken from a ligament in another leg area and small instruments and screws are used to fasten and hold the new ligament in place.

At the end of the procedure the new ligament will be tested for strength and. The patient will leave the surgery room with bandages to protect the surgical incisions.

Results of ALCS Reconstruction Surgery:

According to recent studies, nearly ninety percent of all patients who have undergone ACL surgery report positive results.
