Promed – Council for the Promotion of Medicine in Costa Rica

 

Medical Tours Costa Rica is proud to be a member in good standing of PROMED:

PROMED or the Council for the International Promotion of Medicine in Costa Rica, a private non-profit organization that carries out coordination efforts to ensure that health care services provided by the private medical industry in Costa Rica is of the highest quality. PROMED also coordinates international promotion of medical, dental, and cosmetic surgery services in Costa Rica, with the aim of turning the country into a center for global medicine and a major medical tourism destination.

The private sector and the State had a need to supervise the quality of medical services provided to medical tourism patients, thereby guaranteeing the sustainable growth of this industry, and this is how PROMED came about.

PROMED has set in place and continues to develop standards of regulation, and the organization promotes service provider certification, while training local certifiers and being supported by international entities.

PROMED works so that:

■ Based on high-quality medical services and the hospitality image that already sets the country apart, Costa Rica’s position internationally as a medical tourism and retirement destination can be affirmed.

■ By comprehensively promoting medical and health travel, new international markets will be easier to open.

■ Health authorities can receive help and support in their efforts to standardize health care services and quality.

■ It will have active participation in the development and implementation of national strategies in order to promote and attract investment that will benefit the industry.

■ A more highly professional and specialized labor force within the tourism and health industries is developed in order to improve competitiveness.

Health care service providers, health care professionals, tourism service providers, educators, and other marketers of goods and services related to health and tourism are brought together by PROMED.

PROMED is a body of reference in the medical travel sector and drives coordination between the public and private sectors so that Costa Rica’s international consolidation can be attained. This is accomplished through its private role in the medical tourism industry and related markets.

The organization also promotes the implementation of any and all necessary actions to strengthen the health tourism service availability to achieve wider international competitiveness.
